Globally, the need to find an effective and environmentally friendly way to dispose of or repurpose waste plastics and other petroleum-derived materials has reached a crisis point.  Although detailed historical information on the amount of discarded plastic is not readily available, some have estimated that by 2015 6300 million metric tons (Mt) – 6.3 billion metric tons – of plastic waste had been generated globally. Of this, 9% had been recycled, 12% incinerated, and 79% had accumulated in landfills or leaked into the environment. If trends continue, it is expected that 12,000 Mt of discarded plastic will be in landfills or leak into the environment by 2050. Without a well thought out plan to manage discarded plastics, the planet will soon have to contend with billions of metric tons of discarded plastic.  Currently cities, municipalities, counties, and the business sector are facing escalating costs of plastic waste disposal, a crisis in landfill management, and political backlash with their inability to properly manage plastics.

Businesses and other organizations around the globe are increasingly looking for better ways to recover plastic waste. Using its patent pending technology, Plastonix works with organizations on a fee-for-service basis in order to help them transition to a zero-waste plastic economy. Sometimes when new technologies get introduced, it may take a new way of looking at the present situation – a paradigm shift – in order for the technology to be adopted. Some feel the plastics waste recovery sector requires a paradigm shift. Current plastic processing facilities are quite large, capital intensive, and often located quite far from where the plastic waste is generated or collected. One could argue that the current “how and where” of processing infrastructure impedes greater uptake in plastic resources recovery.

One solution is to create smaller facilities using smaller processing systems that are less capital intensive, and to locate them locally where the plastic is generated and collected. By making the systems less costly and smaller, it creates an opportunity for organizations of all types to locate plastic processing capabilities onsite or somewhere else closer to the need.

Using its patent pending technology, Plastonix works collaboratively with organizations in a cross-section of sectors to design and build plastic processing solutions to meet their plastic waste repurposing needs. Not just a recycling program but a truly sustainable reuse of plastic waste and other petroleum-derived material, Plastonix works with your organization in order to design a solution that seamlessly integrates with your processes to best manage costs and CO2 emissions.

There are currently three production line models: 1 ton per hour, 2.5 tons per hour, and 30 tons per hour. Five and ten-ton lines can also be built to specifications. Contact Plastonix to discuss your design-build requirements.

Licensing

There is increasing pressure within the plastics sector to address the global plastic waste crisis. The world can no longer afford to wait for answers; it needs solutions now. Unfortunately, the sector has either been unwilling or has not known how to address many of the issues facing it. Perhaps the greatest concern when a problem becomes a crisis is how fast it can be resolved. The harsh reality for the plastics recovery sector is that it needs to completely rethink plastic waste in order to solve the systemic challenges it faces, and it needs these new approaches immediately.

A new approach is available now. The Plastonix technology is so disruptive that it provides an opportunity for the plastic waste recovery sector to reinvent itself with different business and financial models. In order to accelerate the rollout of its very flexible and scalable technology, Plastonix will seek out licensing opportunities with world-class organizations.

Plastonix welcomes inquiries to license its technology. For details on the patent pending technology, see here. For a confidential discussion on licensing opportunities, contact Plastonix.
